Autobiography
I, Mary Jeanne Cincotta, was a middle child of parents, Anthony Vincent Cincotta and Maria Josefina Evelina Concepcion Bautista Cincotta. I grew up in Falls Church City with my three siblings. Growing up inside the beltway in a quiet suburb in a "city" only 2 square miles in area, I remember how it felt to feel like a nobody and how the sentiment, even among school friends of youth were similar. One day I "was shaking the dust of this crummy little town off my feet and I'm gonna see the world."
Italian Side
My father Tony, grew up in Yonkers, New York. My dad said his own elementary/high school education was quite poor, and though he was good at math, he didn't really learn how to read and write well until he took an English course at college. After high school, he followed friend to a electrical engineering trade school and kind of wound up qualifying for study at Columbia. This then landed him a job at NIST in Gaithersburg which he stayed with for 30 years.
Filipino Side
My mother accompanied her father, Ike Bautista, when he traveled to Washington, DC from the Philippines when he was a consul at the Department of Foreign Affairs. My grandmother, or Lola, Mary Concepcion was President of the National Council of the Philippines Soroptimist International (1978-1980). Bautista vigorously campaigned against the Marcos dictatorship and supported former President Corazon Aquino in her bid for the presidency. In her long career she was a member of nearly 40 civic, social, professional, and political organizations, from the integrated Bar of the Philippines to Gabriela.

The Point to Knowing the Backstory
I was lucky to have known and met my grandparents at one point in time. But being able to learn about who your grandparents truly were takes some research—especially if you didn't get a chance to appreciate what they learned here on earth if you only knew them as a young kid. It is an investment of time to dig through remnants of history and contact people still alive to offer a bit more information. I credit my sister, Angela, mother of 5, for compiling a Family Photopedia whose second edition was published on Christmas 2021. I really only remembered snippets and pieces from my parents about who my grandparents were. My dad said my Lola was a Muslim. My mom said my Lola was an attorney.
I only remember that I revered my Lola. And though I don't remember anything she ever told us when she would visit us in the US around Fall to see the changing leaves, I do remember her singing a song.
I am not a professional singer, but I was raised Catholic and for many years did attend mass. I, (confession), even stole a missile (for the United States Department of Defense <--j/k!) at Church one year, because I liked some of the songs. You can hear me sing it using the link below:
